Is your affiliate ready to grow? Do you need a person
to work full-time fundraising, improving your volunteer
program, start a restore, or revive your church relations
program?
VISTA may be the answer.
Indiana Habitat for Humanity has been a long-time
partner with the VISTA program. If you would like more
information on serving as a VISTA or hosting a VISTA
member at your site, please contact the Indiana Corporation
for National and Community Service office at in@cns.gov
or call 317-226-6724.
AMERICORPS*VISTA?
Americorps*VISTA (Volunteers In Service To America)
is a form of national service for individuals who want
to serve the low-income community through a non-profit
organization. Habitat VISTAs generally work in the areas
of volunteer development, developing fundraising systems,
developing or improving Restores, rewriting or updating
procedures and/or manuals, and increasing public awareness
and community involvement.
VISTAs work to create systems to handle certain
functions of the affiliate, and then train community
volunteers to manage these systems. The goal of a VISTA
is to leave the affiliate with a self-supporting program
that has expanded the capacity of both the affiliate
and the community.
VISTAs receive a small living allowance and can
choose either a $4725 education award or $1200 stipend
at the end of their term. They also receive medical
insurance and can qualify for childcare benefits.
Your affiliates first step is to complete an Affiliate
Application for VISTA; once you are approved you can
begin recruiting your VISTA member. Your affiliate is
not invoiced until after your member attends their orientation.
