WHAT
IS INDIANA HABICORPS?
Indiana HabiCorps is the AmeriCorps program serving
Habitat for Humanity affiliates throughout Indiana.
WHAT
IS THE AMERICORPS PROGRAM?
AmeriCorps is a National Service program calling Americans
to action to make a difference in their local
communities by pledging a year of service through not-for-profit
organizations that have been approved for AmeriCorps
partnerships. This year a corps of volunteers, approximately
75,000 Members strong, will be serving with the AmeriCorps
program throughout the United States. There are 9 AmeriCorps
programs in the state of Indiana.
WHAT
IS THE BENEFIT TO HAVING A HABICORPS MEMBER AT OUR HABITAT
AFFILIATE?
HabiCorps Members can assist affiliates in 4 different
service areas:
1. Construction
2. Volunteer Coordination
3. Family Support
4. Capacity Building
Indiana HabiCorps Members are not employees, but as
National Service Members they can offer your affiliate
the consistency of a full-time volunteer in the above
service areas.
WHAT ELSE
IS REQUIRED?
Affiliates must be able to provide on-site supervision
and must be willing to track their supervision/management
hours. The program director may also need specific affiliate
information in completing her progress reports to the
Office of Faith Based and Community Initiatives.
Also, affiliates must allow their AmeriCorps Members
to attend all mandatory HabiCorps trainings, and affiliate
supervisors that are new to the program must attend
a one-day site-supervision training.
